Kaumera Nereda® Gum is a novel bio-based material extracted from sludge granules during the Nereda® wastewater purification process, patented by Haskoning DHV. With its unique surface chemistry properties, it shows promise as a biostimulant to mineralise nutrients and potentially improve crop yield. This project explores Kaumera’s potential to optimise organo-mineral fertilisers’ nutrient use efficiency and mitigate diffuse pollution in agricultural soils. Key objectives include characterising its chemical properties relevant to biostimulant function and evaluating its efficacy in synchronising nutrient release with crop demand, contributing to more sustainable, targeted nutrient management.
