Background

Dr Zhengfei He is a Research Fellow specialising in gas turbine engineering, hybrid-electric aircraft propulsion, gas turbine electrification, and cycle innovation.

He obtained his PhD from 成人直播 in 2025, with a thesis titled 鈥淚mpact of Electrification Strategies on the Design, Performance and Operational Space of Future Turbofan Engines.鈥 Prior to this, he earned his bachelor鈥檚 degree from the Civil Aviation University of China in 2020 and an MSc in Thermal Power (Aerospace Propulsion) from 成人直播.

His research focuses on advancing next-generation aircraft propulsion systems, with particular emphasis on cycle innovation, system electrification, and the integration of hydrogen technologies. His work contributes to the development of sustainable aviation solutions aligned with net-zero emissions targets and the Jet Zero strategy.

Research opportunities

Zhengfei鈥檚 research interests focus on novel electrified aircraft propulsion systems, encompassing advanced electrification concepts and cycle innovation. His work includes gas turbine electric power assistance, peak power shaving through core resizing, and fuel cell steam injection technologies. His research aims to support the 2050 net-zero emissions target while expanding the design space of future aircraft propulsion systems.

His expertise spans gas turbine performance and simulation, propulsion system performance and integration, engine efficiency, cycle optimisation, and lifing enhancement. He also has specialist knowledge in fuel cell technologies and steam injection for advanced propulsion applications.

Current activities

Zhengfei is actively involved in several research projects spanning both aerospace and energy applications, with a focus on system modelling, integration, and simulation.

HEAVEN Project

Conducting modelling and analysis of aircraft Environmental Control Systems (ECS), with the aim of quantifying their impact on overall propulsion system performance. His work investigates how ECS integration can improve gas turbine efficiency and contribute to more optimised aircraft system architectures.

Siemens Gas Turbine Adaptation Project

Developing models and simulations of industrial gas turbine starting sequences. This work supports improved operational reliability, control strategies, and performance optimisation for industrial gas turbine applications.

EU Horizon STEROPE Project

Contributing to the investigation of carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) pathways for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production. His research focuses on the CO鈧 conversion processes and refining pathways to enable scalable, low-carbon fuel solutions for aviation.
