Background
Dr Viktoriia Myroniuk is an experienced academic and internationally recognised educator in air transport management and aviation sustainability, with a career spanning more than two decades across Europe, Asia, and North America. She currently serves as a Senior Lecturer in Air Transport Management and previously held various academic and leadership positions at institutions in Ukraine, South Korea, the USA, Ireland, the Netherlands, Singapore, Hong Kong, Latvia, and the UK, reflecting her truly global perspective on aviation education.
Dr Myroniuk completed her bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 degrees at the National Aviation University in Kyiv, Ukraine, and in 2009 was awarded a PhD in Economics for her research on aircraft fleet management in airlines. From 2005 to 2012, she served as an Assistant and later Associate Professor at the same university, where she also headed research at the Department of Finance, Accounting, and Audit. During this period, she delivered a short course in Human Resource Management in Aviation as an Invited Lecturer at Korea Aerospace University in Seoul, South Korea. Her international experience includes appointments as a Fulbright Visiting Faculty member at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in the USA (2012鈥2013) and as an Erasmus Mundus Postdoctoral Researcher at Technological University Dublin in Ireland (2014鈥2015).
Dr Myroniuk joined the University of Salford in 2015, where she played a pivotal role in shaping and advancing aviation education. As Programme Leader, she developed and led the innovative MSc Sustainable Air Transport Operations & Planning and MSc Sustainable Air Transport, designed to integrate sustainability, innovation, and global industry engagement. The MSc SATOP programme, created in partnership with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (USA), became one of the few non-engineering postgraduate aviation degrees in the UK to be approved by the Royal Aeronautical Society. Her leadership in sustainable aviation education was nationally recognised when she was named a Finalist for the 2024 Green Gown Awards UK & Ireland in the 鈥淣ext Generation Learning and Skills鈥 category. She also served as Programme Leader for BSc Aviation Technology with Pilot Studies, BEng/MEng Aeronautical Engineering, International Lead for aero, mechanical, and civil engineering programmes, and Link Tutor for the partnership with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Throughout her career, Dr Myroniuk contributed extensively to academic governance, curriculum design, and institutional development. At Salford, she served as Interim Director of Engineering, managing approximately fifty academics and overseeing undergraduate and postgraduate degrees across aero, mechanical, and civil engineering. She chaired and participated in numerous programme validation and revalidation panels, contributed to Engineering Council accreditations, and was an active member of committees and working groups on academic regulations, education for sustainable development, and student experience. Her commitment to educational excellence extended to external examining and academic advising roles for universities in the UK, Hong Kong, Latvia, and Singapore, including the University of Bedfordshire (BSc Aviation and Airport Management), Coventry University (BSc Aviation Management delivered at City University of Hong Kong), the University of the West of England (MSc Aviation Management with Sustainability delivered at the Transport and Telecommunication Institute in Riga, Latvia), and the University of West London (FdA Airline and Airport Management; BSc Air Transport Management; BSc Aviation Management with Commercial Pilot Licence; and BA Airline and Airport Management delivered in partnership with SDH Institute in Singapore).
An enthusiastic advocate of transnational and flexible learning, she was highly experienced in both synchronous and asynchronous delivery through platforms such as Blackboard and Canvas. She taught across undergraduate and postgraduate levels, leading modules and supervising final-year projects and dissertations. Her pedagogical expertise was complemented by professional recognition as a Fellow of Advance HE and as a Member of the Royal Aeronautical Society, where she has served on the CPD and Non-Engineering Degree Approval Panel.
Dr Myroniuk鈥檚 engagement with industry and international organisations was extensive. She advised the British Aviation Group, Connected Places Catapult, Universities UK, and Talentview Aviation on the future of aviation skills and workforce development. She developed the professional short course 鈥淐limate Change and Aviation Sustainability鈥 for Airports Council International and the Singapore Aviation Academy. Her scholarly and professional outreach included invited speaking engagements at major international events such as Passenger Terminal Expo (Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, and Madrid), Air 2023 (Bled), and the Passenger Experience Forum (Dubai).
A former Adjunct Professor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Worldwide (2017-2019), Dr Myroniuk continued to collaborate with global academic partners. She was an Erasmus+ Visiting Faculty member at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and a reviewer for leading journals and conferences in air transport management and aviation education.
Her qualifications include IATA Training Certificates (Designing a Sustainability Strategy; CORSIA Fundamentals; Aircraft Acquisition and Financing; Network, Fleet and Schedule Planning; Route Forecasting and Development), ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems training, and professional media training at MediaCityUK.
Dr Viktoriia Myroniuk鈥檚 professional journey exemplifies a fusion of academic rigour, industry engagement, and visionary commitment to sustainable aviation. Through her teaching, research, and leadership, she influences the development of future aviation professionals and advances the global dialogue on sustainability in air transport management.
Research opportunities
Dr Viktoriia Myroniuk鈥檚 research interests include sustainable air transport, particularly airline and airport decarbonisation strategies, electric and hydrogen aviation, airline and airport economics and management, air transport resilience, digital transformation in aviation, passenger experience and well-being, and the future of advanced air mobility (urban and regional).
Dr Viktoriia Myroniuk is currently serving as an External Advisor for a PhD project on the impact of renewable energy systems on sustainable airport operations. She has disseminated her research at international conferences and industry events, including the Air Transport Research Society (ATRS) World Conference, Passenger Terminal Expos, and Air.
She has served as a reviewer for the Journal of Air Transport Management, Highlights of Sustainability, Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology, the Journal of Aerospace Technology and Management, and the Journal of Aviation/Aerospace Education and Research (JAAER), as well as for major conferences such as the World Conference on Transport Research (WCTRS). She also reviews academic books and chapters for Routledge and related publishers.
A graduate of the Research Leadership Development Programme (2022), Dr Myroniuk continues to cultivate collaborative research projects on sustainable aviation and the transition towards low-carbon air transport.

She plays an active role in developing forward-looking, sustainability-focused curricula that integrate academic excellence with real-world application, equipping the next generation of aviation leaders with the skills and insight required to navigate the sector鈥檚 transition toward greener, more technologically advanced, and resilient air transport.
She brings to her role a strong track record of student engagement, industry-informed module design, and internationalised curriculum development. Deeply committed to strengthening the link between research and teaching, she ensures that the most recent developments in research inform the classroom experience.
A Fellow of Advance HE and a Member of the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS), Dr Myroniuk also serves on the RAeS CPD and Non-Engineering Degree Approval Panel, contributing to the ongoing advancement of aviation education standards in the UK and beyond. She continues to act as an External Examiner for several UK institutions and serves as a reviewer for leading academic journals in air transport management and sustainability.
