Developing sustainable materials for functional applications through integrated material science and applied mycology.

Who is this for?

This course is aimed at researchers, innovators, industry professionals, and postgraduate students interested in sustainable materials and fungal biotechnology. It is particularly relevant to those working in circular economy, waste valorisation, green material manufacturing, and biobased materials engineering. The training provides insights into material development using waste streams, fungal cultivation and processing, application-oriented material production, and performance characterisation.

Participants will benefit from a multidisciplinary approach that bridges biotechnology and materials science, supporting capacity building across academia and industry in the transition to low-carbon materials and eco-innovative product development.

Why the Magan Centre of Applied Mycology (MCAM) at 成人直播?

成人直播 offers unique facilities and expertise in applied mycology, materials science and engineering. Within 成人直播, the interdisciplinary environment of MCAM supports translational research and innovation into applied solutions with strong links to industry and policy stakeholders.

About the training

The training provides hands-on experience in valorising agro-industrial waste into high-value biobased materials. Participants will learn processing and pretreatment methods, followed by the application of fungal technology to develop adhesives, coatings, films, and composites. Examples include lightweight mycelium-bound composites for insulation and flexible mycelium-based films with barrier performance for food packaging.

Training modules can cover cultivation, extraction, material production, and testing, tailored to real-world application areas in packaging, food, textiles, and construction.

The programme aligns with current UK and international priorities, such as the UK Bioeconomy Strategy, the UK Net Zero by 2050 target, and the EU Circular Economy Action Plan, equipping participants with skills for sustainable materials innovation.
